What the Heck is a Dab?

Man wearing a cap in a field, pointing towards something

Tolerance too high? Smoking flower just not doing it for you anymore? Well maybe a friend or close acquaintance has recommended that you take a dab, but what the heck is a dab??? Well, today we’re going to break it down for you.

A cannabis dab is a highly concentrated form of cannabis that is made by extracting THC (the psychoactive component in marijuana) and other cannabinoids from the plant using a solvent such as butane or CO2. The resulting concentrate is then used to create a highly potent product that can be vaporized and inhaled, or “dabbed”, using a special device called a dab rig. Dabbing is often preferred by those who want a more intense and immediate high, as the concentrated cannabis contains much higher levels of THC than traditional cannabis flower. there are many different types of cannabis concentrate that can be categorized as a “dab.” Take a look below for a brief overview of some of these.

Live Resin

Live resin is a type of cannabis concentrate that is made by freezing freshly harvested cannabis plants and immediately extracting the THC and other cannabinoids using a solvent such as butane or CO2. This process preserves the terpenes, which are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its distinctive flavor and aroma, as well as other beneficial compounds like flavonoids and cannabinoids that can be lost during other extraction processes.

The resulting concentrate is a sticky, honey-like substance that is typically high in THC and other cannabinoids. It can be consumed by vaporizing or dabbing, or it can be added to other cannabis products like edibles or topicals.

Live resin is known for its intense flavor and aroma, which can be much stronger than other types of concentrates. It is also considered to be one of the most potent types of cannabis products available, and it is often preferred by experienced users who are looking for a stronger high.

Live Rosin

Live rosin is a type of cannabis concentrate that is made using heat and pressure to extract THC and other cannabinoids from freshly harvested cannabis plants. Like live resin, live rosin is made from freshly harvested plants that are immediately frozen to preserve the terpenes and other beneficial compounds. However, unlike live resin, live rosin does not use solvents such as butane or CO2 in the extraction process.

Instead, live rosin is made using a process called rosin pressing, which involves applying heat and pressure to the fresh frozen cannabis plants or concentrate to extract the resinous trichomes. The resulting concentrate is a sticky, wax-like substance that is high in THC and other cannabinoids, and retains the flavor and aroma of the original plant material.

Live rosin is highly sought after by cannabis enthusiasts because of its purity and potency, as well as its full spectrum of flavors and aromas. It is typically consumed by vaporizing or dabbing, and is often preferred by those who want a pure and natural form of cannabis concentrate without the use of solvents.

Cured Resin

Cured resin is a type of cannabis concentrate that is made using cured, or dried cannabis plants or plant material. Cured resin be produced using any form of extraction including Solventless extraction (heat and pressure extracted), Hydrocarbon extraction (Butane, propane etc.) or any other form of extraction.
